The school year is arriving sooner than ever — or so it seems. Beginning August 13, Miami-Dade public school students return to class, with many private schools following shortly afterward.
Vistors, residents, and employees of local businesses should expect heavier traffic as parents navigate morning drop-offs and afternoon pickups, especially near Coconut Grove Elementary School, George W. Carver Elementary/Middle, Frances S. Tucker Elementary, Ransom Everglades School, Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, and St. Hugh Catholic School.
Safety First
It’s also important to remind motorists to slow down and stay alert in school zones, while students are reminded to cross streets carefully and always look both ways before stepping into traffic.

It’s a good time for local shops and restaurants to lean into the back-to-school crowd with timely promotions or extended morning hours.

Mark your calendar for the Back-to-School Community Cleanup on Saturday, August 22, 10 a.m. to noon, at Peacock Park. Parents, kids, and local businesses are encouraged to bring their best back-to-school spirit and help keep our neighborhood clean.
This event is proudly organized by Miami Waterkeeper in collaboration with the Coconut Grove Business Improvement District. The Grove BID has been dedicated to improving Coconut Grove through beautification projects, community events, and neighborhood enhancement initiatives since 2009, making this partnership a perfect fit for combining community service with a fresh start to the school year.
