With summer behind us and cooler days ahead, more residents and visitors will be flocking to the Central Grove for shopping, dining, and exploring. And with the extra foot traffic, we all know what follows – more trash. But don’t worry, we’ve got it covered!
While our hardworking Block-By-Block team has been doing a stellar job of keeping the streets clean, they’re now getting a boost! Earlier this month, Executive Director Mark Burns teamed up with Katie Grate, Assistant Director of Operations at the City of Miami’s Solid Waste Department, to tackle the issue head-on. The result? A quick turnaround! By the very next day, 10 brand-new trash barrels were delivered to the BID.
These new receptacles are already in action, placed strategically along hotspots like Commodore Plaza, McFarlane Road, Main Highway, Mary Street, and Florida Ave. Collaboration is the key!
In Other News:
- Replacement of traffic signs continues this week, including pedestrian crossing signs, stop signs, and all important no-poopie-dumping signs). Installation of these brand signs launched last month.
- Our crews continue to remove fallen fronds and other debris in the Bayshore Drive median on a weekly basis, which is a primary gateway to the Grove.
- Our Ambassadors also keep a keen eye out for potholes – which are typically repaired within days by City crews.
- Following the heavy rains, we’ve been experiencing of late, Block-By-Block Ambassadors are quick to remove pooling water with the new electric water pump units we purchased last month. They’re also cleaning street drains, and they’re sweeping away muddy residue as needed.
- Block-By-Block also continues its aggressive program of repairs, releveling, and replacement of uneven pavers throughout the BID. Be sure to reach out if you notice a problem area near your business. In addition, you may notice that our crews have been busy repairing and replacing rubber mulch and Flexipave along the heavily traveled sidewalks along Main Highway.
