Brighter Streets, Greener Spaces, a Cleaner Grove

Coconut Grove is about to shine. The BID is rolling out year-round decorative lighting and refreshed flower beds on Commodore Plaza – all designed to make every stroll through the village a little brighter and greener. Plus, meet the oddly named secret weapon our Operations team uses to erase graffiti in seconds. Go behind the scenes and see what’s coming next.

The Grove Is About to Get Brighter

The Grove is getting a glow-up! Crews are installing all-new year-round streetscape lighting along Commodore Plaza, Main Highway and parts of Grand Avenue and Fuller Street. The work is moving full speed ahead to make sure the district shines for the holiday season, and stays lit well into the new year. Brighter nights in the Grove are just around the corner. Also have new barricades at both ends of Fuller along with bringing in attractive 3×10 planters.

Commodore Plaza’s Flower Beds Get New Life

Coming soon: Commodore Plaza’s flower beds are getting a fresh start. Crews will revitalize the beds and plant Green Island Ficus, a compact shrub with thick, glossy, rounded leaves that’s a favorite in South Florida streetscapes. It stands up to heat, salt air and drought, and it holds a neat, tidy shape, so the plaza will stay green and polished year-round.

Snot Your Average Cleaning Product

Graffiti doesn’t stand a chance in the Grove, thanks to a secret weapon with an unforgettable name: Elephant Snot. The thick, green, gooey graffiti remover clings to brick, stone, stucco and pavers, dissolving tags so crews can simply rinse them away. And don’t worry: No elephants are involved. Biodegradable and environmentally safe, it’s just one of the tools our Ops team uses to keep the district clean and looking its best.
