Carl Springer: On Call for Quick Fixes in the BID

By the time most people have had their first cup of coffee, Carl Springer is already in the thick of it. In the office of City of Miami District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo, he scans the day’s updates and sketches out the battle plan. As Rapid Response Team Manager, Springer is the guy who keeps small problems from becoming big ones—heading up his crew to clear safety hazards, haul away bulky trash, and keep streets clean before the city even stirs.

Springer’s deep connection to Coconut Grove is evident in just about everything he does. “The Grove is the oldest part of Miami, and it feels good to help preserve its history and beauty,” he says. This sentiment is shared by his team members, who, like Springer, are also lifelong Grovites. Their local roots provide them with a unique understanding of the neighborhood’s character and needs.

Problem Solver in Action

Cleanliness and curb appeal are among the top priorities for Carl and his team, as these aspects directly affect how the community – and businesses in the BID – are perceived. By coordinating tasks like pressure washing and bulk pickups, the Rapid Response Team keeps the Grove pristine and inviting for residents, visitors, and businesses alike. “Clean and attractive storefronts are obviously more inviting,” Springer emphasizes, highlighting how even small improvements can have a big impact.

Springer works in tight collaboration with the Commissioner’s Constituent Liaison, Javier Gonzalez. Their regular communication keeps the district running smoothly by ensuring that Grove business and residential needs are quickly addressed. “Javi and my team communicate often, almost daily. Oftentimes, we strategize on the best way to solve a problem so that it is settled once and for all,” he explains.

Passion for Giving Back

Springer’s impact on the community as a whole extends beyond his professional role. He’s also co-founder of the Coconut Grove Optimist Club, where he has dedicated more than 30 years to mentoring local youth in academics and athletics. His passion for giving back to the community that he loves is evident in every aspect of his life. And if you’ve attended a local event, there’s a good chance you’ve seen “DJ Coach Carl” behind the turntables, blending his love for music and the city!

Springer truly exemplifies the commitment, collaboration, and community spirit that make Coconut Grove the standout neighborhood it is. Whether it’s working side-by-side with Gonzalez and other members of the Commissioner’s staff, or responding to an urgent call from BID Executive Director Mark Burns, Springer’s commitment reflects a deep love for the Grove’s history and a dedication to its future. By proactively addressing resident concerns, supporting businesses, and preserving the neighborhood’s unique charm, he and his crew are creating positive, lasting change for generations to come.
