UPDATED JULY 25, 2025 (9 A.M.)
A major sewer upgrade is commencing on Bayshore and Halissee that will have this intersection closed for two weeks as Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer crews move Pump Station 64 out of a flood zone and onto higher ground on Halissee. The project aims to improve sewer service for area residents by increasing capacity, efficiency, and resilience. In addition to the upgraded pump station, an 8-inch sewer force main and new gravity sewer lines are being installed along key streets in Coconut Grove, including Halissee, Micanopy, Coacoochee, Tigertail, and Bayshore Drive.
To accelerate the timeline and reduce traffic impacts, construction hours have been extended from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Weekend work may also occur with advance notice. Temporary road closures will be in effect, but emergency vehicle access will remain available. Restoration activities and landscaping are planned following project completion, anticipated for mid-2026.
Business Improvement District Executive Director Mark Burns noted, “Miami-Dade Water & Sewer will be shutting down South Bayshore Drive at Halissee Street for approximately two weeks. Closures will impact 17th Avenue eastbound and South Federal Highway westbound.”
Burns added, “They’re doing their best to move this along quickly before school reopens, but there will be major traffic delays in and around South Bayshore.” This vital infrastructure upgrade will not affect water or wastewater services.
