Pet Waste and Bayshore Clean-Up Top the Block-By-Block Ops Report

Aug 20, 2024

Here’s your August 20 update on work being accomplished by Coconut Grove’s Block-By-Block Ambassadors. Headed up Operations Manager Sully Silva, her team consistently and meticulously walk the District to identify areas needing repairs, cleaning, and general tidying up.

Let’s start with doggie waste news. It’s been an ongoing issue, especially along the most popular dog-walking routes in the Grove, like on Florida Ave. So, we are happy to announce that those much-missed Pet Waste Stations are now back in action, providing dog owners with an ample supply of pet waste bags and a handy receptacle where you can drop your droppings. But also keep in mind, you can always ask a Block-by-Block Ambassador for a fresh supply of doggie waste bags that they carry on them all day long. Bark and thou shall receive!

In Other News:

  • Because you never get a second chance to make a first impression, our crews work feverishly to remove fallen fronds and other debris in the Bayshore Drive median. It’s a primary gateway to the Grove and important we put our best face forward (see photos).
  • Our Ambassadors also keep a keen eye out for potholes – which are typically repaired within days by City crews (see photos). The 311 Reporting App is working!
  • Replacement of faded and otherwise damaged traffic signs continues, including pedestrian crossing signs, stop signs, and all important no-poopie-dumping signs). The long-awaited installation of these new signs started in earnest earlier this month so you may be noticing a difference here and there.
  • New electric water pump units are now being utilized around the District when and where needed – like in front of Palm Produce, which is often a real problem spot following significant rain events. So never fear, our Block-By-Block Ambassadors are now equipped to quickly remove pooling water. They also stay on top of cleaning street drains and sweeping away muddy residue as needed.
  • We continue to work with City of Miami Police in addressing the recurring trespassers and graffiti activity at the now-closed Miami Art School at 3138 Commodore Plaza. The BID has installed temporary, reinforced with a hard wall and secured door.
  • Still patiently awaiting the official roll-out of the upgraded SMART system/ Stay tune. It won’t be long.
  • Block-By-Block also continues its aggressive program of repairs, releveling, and replacement of uneven pavers throughout the BID. Be sure to reach out if you notice a problem area near your business. In addition, you may notice that our crews have been busy repairing and replacing rubber mulch and Flexipave along the heavily traveled sidewalks along Main Highway.

Please check in with us if you see signs of other pesky problem spots around town, by contacting Sully Silva (pictured below), our Block-by-Block Operations Manager, at 305-360-6870 or via email at ssilva@blockbyblock.com.
