Founded in 2017, Rosenow-Taramasco is rooted in a legacy of immigration advocacy and a passion for community connection. With a serendipitously chosen office, the firm has become a proud part of the Grove’s thriving network of businesses. Their story is one of resilience, cultural understanding, and dedication to serving their clients. Today, in a discussion with Martin Rosenow and Guiliana Rosenow-Taramasco, we shed light on the people, principles, and passions driving their mission.

Coconut Grove is a tight-knit community with a rich history. How has being based here shaped the way you approach your work and connect with clients?

We connect with local business owners and residents in need of immigration services by offering special rates for our neighbors. We’ve also developed alliances with local hospitality companies, assisting their staff with immigration needs, and they, in turn, show incredible hospitality towards our firm and employees.

Why did you choose the Grove, and how long have you been in the neighborhood?

By chance! It was a fortunate turn of events that led Martin to start the firm here in 2017. He was about to sign a lease in Coral Gables when his grandfather’s realtor reached out to show him an office in the Grove. Martin immediately saw the potential and relocated from Pembroke Pines to be closer to his children, envisioning a future with them attending Coconut Grove Elementary—right behind the office.

Martin, your grandfather was a renowned immigration attorney, and you’re continuing his legacy in a major way. Considering your deep roots in the field, how have you seen immigration law evolve?

Ever since my teenage years, I was actively involved in my grandfather’s practice—answering phones, filing cases, and attending immigration appointments and court hearings. I became a paralegal in 2005 before becoming an attorney and have seen how increasingly complex immigration law has become. Helping families and individuals navigate these challenges requires experienced counsel more than ever.

Guiliana, you’ve studied law across three countries. How has this cross-cultural legal education equipped you to approach U.S. immigration law differently than someone who trained here in the U.S.?

Studying law in three countries was not my initial plan, but circumstances led me down that path. This experience exposed me to diverse legal systems, documents, and regulations, which now help me in my practice. Many of our clients come from Venezuela and Colombia, and my familiarity with their legal documentation allows me to better interpret and address their needs.

It appears as though, aside from bringing a sense of professionalism, your firm takes great pride in becoming part of the client’s journey. How does Rosenow-Taramasco walk that line between counselor and companion?

Most of our staff are first-generation immigrants, and Martin is a second-generation immigrant. This shared experience makes it impossible not to become emotionally invested in our clients’ outcomes. It drives us to work diligently, ensuring we put our best foot forward in every case.

Rosenow-Taramasco is part of a thriving network of businesses within the Coconut Grove BID. What’s one way collaborating with local businesses has enriched your practice?

We enjoy supporting local businesses and value word-of-mouth referrals. By referring our neighbors, we build relationships that benefit everyone, helping us all grow together.

Your team is composed of immigrants who help clients achieve their dreams. Do you often draw inspiration or guidance from your own immigration journeys when working with clients?

Absolutely. We empathize with our clients because we understand their emotional ups and downs. This perspective helps us address concerns about lengthy wait times and evolving policies, allowing us to guide clients with care and understanding.

Martin, you’ve been in the hot seat on CNN and Univision discussing complex topics like DACA and new asylum rules. When the camera’s off, what’s something about immigration policy you wish everyone understood?

The public often has a misconception that immigrating to the United States is as simple as “getting in line” and “waiting your turn.” In reality, immigration laws are extremely nuanced, and there’s no single, clear path for everyone. The system is a complex web of requirements, exceptions, and often contradictory policies that vary widely depending on the individual’s country of origin, family connections, or employment opportunities. This is why having skilled and knowledgeable legal counsel is so critical. People need to understand that immigration is not about “cutting the line” or “jumping ahead” of others; it’s about navigating an intricate system where the rules are not always logical or fair.

Guiliana, you’ve specialized in Commercial Law, among other fields. How does your expertise outside of traditional immigration law add value to the firm and your clients’ cases?

My background in commercial law has proven incredibly beneficial, particularly in immigration cases involving business elements, such as investor visas or transfers of managers from international companies to the U.S. These cases require a strong understanding of both U.S. business regulations and international commercial practices, and my training allows me to address the complexities involved.

Additionally, this knowledge has helped us manage the operational side of the firm more effectively, ensuring that we remain efficient and organized. For clients, this means we can handle cases involving substantial investments or business transactions with the professionalism and insight that such matters demand. My ability to interpret business documentation from other countries also helps streamline processes for many of our clients.

Immigration laws are constantly changing. How do you handle the pressure of staying on top of these shifting sands, and how do you keep your clients calm amid the chaos?

Staying current with immigration law is a nonstop commitment. We dedicate time each day to researching the latest changes, whether it’s court rulings, executive orders, or updates to agency policies. This ensures that we’re always providing our clients with the most accurate and timely advice possible.

On the client side, we take the time to explain what changes mean for their specific cases, so they feel informed and empowered rather than overwhelmed. We also emphasize transparency; we make it clear when timelines might be uncertain or when policy shifts could impact their outcomes.

Even when we can’t guarantee the result they want, they can trust that we are proactive and well-prepared to navigate any challenges. This approach helps to alleviate their stress and fosters a sense of trust, knowing that we are just as invested in their success as they are.

Rosenow-Taramasco maintains very close communication throughout the immigration process. In a field where “lawyer” often means limited availability, how does your firm make this commitment work?

As a small business, we stay closely involved in every case. Clients know they can reach us directly as attorneys, and our incredible team of paralegals and administrative staff ensures prompt communication and support.

If you had to describe Rosenow-Taramasco’s role in the immigration landscape in one word, what would it be and why?

Resilient. No matter how the laws change or challenges arise, we remain steadfast in fighting for our clients and helping them achieve their dreams of living in the United States.

Lastly, what’s your passion outside the courtroom?

We’re big sports fans! You’ll often find us cheering on the Miami Heat, Dolphins, or Hurricanes. Living in the Grove means we’re close to the arenas and stadiums, which makes it easy to enjoy games year-round.
